Knock off or Knock out?

So our nation’s First Lady and follow worthy fashionista Michelle Obama stepped out for (or stayed home for?) the annual White House Halloween bash.  No costume for Mrs. O, she opted instead for an orange, black and gold ensemble that’s stirring up a bit of controversy. Why you may ask? Well, this fancy frock found on Asos.com bears a striking resemblance to the Savannah Striped Dress from the Fall 2011 collection by Diane von Furstenberg.

Now the DVF original and the Asos.com number listed on the site simply as the “Midi Body Conscious Dress in Metallic Stripe” have a few notable differences.  Take a look at the necklines, the width of the stripes, and the obvious differences in hue.  I don’t know if I would necessarily call this a knock off as it’s been reported as, but inspired by?…well ok.

Question is, with the current economic state of the country, are we really blaming Michelle for deciding on a less expensive version of the design? I sure am not.  With the Furstenberg dress costing $498 and the Asos.com version retailing for just $72, I would have easily made the same call.  Plus, it’s not a true knockoff anyway! If they wanted to see actual knock offs, they should have raided my closet back when I was 14. I still have a “Fendi” baseball cap that I hold dear to my heart.  I think these folks should all calm down and appreciate the realness that is First Lady Michelle Obama, fellow target shopper.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Rouge Revolution! I’m Alexandra Jane, makeup artist, stylist, and noowww…cosmetic and fashion blogger.  The idea for The Rouge Revolution started out as just that, an idea.  I sat on it for years debating exatly what it was, what it would become, how to get it out there.  I spent so much time doubting myself and trying to set things up to ensure they were perfect that the clock kept ticking and I was getting nowhere fast! I finally decided to just get the ball rolling and let my baby walk and grow on its own.  Whatever it developed into, it would be.

The concept I first had in my head was that The Rouge Revolution would serve as purely a cosmetic blog, teaching girls of all ages that they could revolutionize the way they looked, felt, and moved through life with their makeup choices and application.  Then I thought, why not include my first love in this project, fashion! What would any product of AJ be without an accurate fashion forecast?  So that was thrown in the pot too.

What you’ll see here will be a great mix of product reviews and comparisons, tehniques and tips, a few tutorials, current fashion trends, runway reports, designer info, sales and coupon codes, industry news, product giveaways and a small dose of celebrity gossip.

I will note that every post you see here will come from my own unbiased opinion.  I’ll give you the good, the bad and the ugly. Most likely, you won’t agree with everything I have to say.  If you have another opinion you wish to share, ask me a question or would like me to review a certain product or brand, shout it out! Contact me! I love to interact. So ladies and gents, if this sounds like your kind of party, stay tuned, there will be refreshments…
